Christian + Jordan’s Wedding at Billings Estate Museum
Last weekend my second shooter, Heather, and I photographed Christian and Jordan’s wedding at the beautiful Billings Estate in Ottawa. I have wanted to shoot there for a while and was happy to finally get the opportunity. It is a really beautiful wedding venue for any engaged couples searching for the perfect wedding location.
I’m not gonna lie. I was pretty stressed about the weather as there was a 70% chance of rain and they were getting married outside. Also, their first look photos and all of the family and bridal portraits were scheduled to be taken at the arboretum. We could have taken the photos at an indoor location if it rained, but I prefer to shoot outdoors. Also, Christian and Jordan really wanted to have their photos taken at the arboretum as it is a place that they hold dear to them. We were all so thrilled that the rains held off the entire day and we were able to take all of the photos outside and have a dry outdoor ceremony. Yay for not raining! And yay for shooting my very first wedding couple’s first look. It turned out so beautifully.
Jordan looked beautiful in her simply chic styled wedding dress, while Christian looked handsome in his suit. With a pretty pair like that and the gorgeous backdrops of Billings Estate and the Arboretum, we couldn’t help but get great photos of this awesome couple, despite the very overcast day and not a lot of available light.
It was also nice to scout out the various locations at the Arboretum with Jordan in order to get those special spots that hold some meaning to them. It worked out really well to scout out the locations with Jordan, because both of them really wanted to have Carleton University in the background for some of their formal portraits. I understand why, since Christian just graduated from there with a Ph.D. and Jordan is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Carleton.
I shot Christian and Jordan’s engagement photo session a few months ago. As a wedding photographer I highly recommend that all couples do engagement portraits with their wedding photographer so that they can get to know their photographer better, so that it’s not so awkward on the wedding day smiling for a stranger. Likewise, the photographer will get to know the couple better and know how to approach photographing them on their wedding day.
Congratulations Christian and Jordan. May life bring you all of the happiness and love possible, and then some.
