Spring Mini Sessions Ottawa

Spring Mini Sessions at the Ottawa Arboretum | Ottawa Family Photography

A few weeks ago I shot spring mini sessions at the Ottawa Arboretum.  This was one of the families that did a mini session that day.  Their little guy was a tough one to get smiles from, but in the end I was able to get some fun shots of him.  It helps when mom and dad are swinging you in the air.  It also helped when he was pretending to play hockey.

If you are thinking of having your photos taken, I would LOVE to be your portrait photographer.  Contact me and we can arrange it while the weather is still lovely and warm.

A few weeks ago I photographed some maternity photos of a good friend of mine and her husband.   We did the pregnancy photos at the Ottawa Arboretum as well as at the Experimental Farm. We had to postpone a couple of times to wait for the apple and cherry blossoms to bloom and it was well worth the wait as the trees were so beautiful with pink and white blooms everywhere.

If you haven’t visited the Arboretum or the Experimental Farm in the spring, you are truly missing out.  It’s like a bunch of candy floss exploded everywhere (in a good way). I look forward to shooting your newborn photos when your little man decides to see the world with his own little eyes.

For anyone wanting to do maternity photos, contact me.  I LOVE shooting maternity portraits.  The best time to do a maternity photo session is when you are between 28-32 weeks pregnant.

Spring Family Mini Sessions at the Arboretum | Ottawa Family Photographers

A few weeks ago I photographed this lovely little family at the Arboretum for my annual spring mini sessions.  It was a gorgeous sunny day and there was one tree in particular that was almost in full bloom.

Spring is my favourite time of year for shooting photos and it’s a great time to do mini sessions.  I just wish that the beautiful blooms on the trees lasted longer than a week and a half.  But that’s what I love about photography–you can freeze these moments in time.  And likewise, I am happy to have captured some moments in time of this lovely family so that they will have some family photos to cherish.

I love shooting family photos.  If you are looking to have family photos taken contact me to book an appointment.

This past weekend I shot spring mini sessions at the Ottawa Arboretum and this little lady (who has assisted me on and off for about 6 years) came to help out.  As always, it was a pleasure working with you chickie.  Enjoy a couple of photos from Saturday.

Spring Mini Sessions Ottawa 2014

2014 Ottawa Spring Mini Sessions at the Ottawa Arboretum

I am offering my spring mini photo sessions this year.  The mini sessions will take place at the Ottawa Arboretum on Saturday May 3, 2014.  The rain date will be Saturday May 10, 2014.

Mini sessions are 30 minutes long and are great for baby photos, children’s photos, maternity photos, couples photos and of course for family photos up to 5 people.  Larger families need more time for their session, so this is why I limit each session up to 5 people.  Newborn photography and cake smash photography are not available for mini sessions as they need more time than 30 minutes to do.

To book a spring mini session, please fill out the form below.  I will give photography slot times closer to the date.  Please see the photo below for more photography package details.

Ottawa Family Portraits

Arboretum Fall Portraits

A few months ago I took some photos of these two lovely ladies at the Arboretum.  It was a GORGEOUS fall day.  The weather and temperature were perfect and the sun was shining.  It was a Saturday, so there were a tonne of wedding parties having their photos taken there as well.

I would have posted this sooner, but since these photos were meant as a Christmas present for their mother, I didn’t want to ruin the surprise in case someone who knew them showed the post to their mom.   I think that giving family portraits for Christmas is a perfect gift.  In this day and age of digital photography, most photos don’t end up anywhere except on the internet and on people’s computer hard drives.  Printed photos will last for a lifetime–no matter what kind of technology we have.

Fall Photos at the Arboretum with the N Family

A few months ago I did some fall portraits of this cute little family.  It was a gorgeous autumn day in Ottawa–sunny and warm.  They were perfect conditions to do some early evening family photos.  I shot some photos of mamma and her son this past spring when she was pregnant with her daughter.  It is great to see this family with their newest addition.  And what a cutie this little girl is.  Congratulations to the newest addition to your family.  🙂

Spring Arboretum Portraits

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while to get together with another professional portrait photographer and do a photography exchange.  What I mean by that is that I would photograph a portrait session of another photographer and she would shoot a session of me.

I really wanted some portraits taken of myself with my daughter.  I have a tonne of professional photos that I have taken of her as well as some of her with her father and brother (which is a feat in itself since they don’t like to have their pictures taken).  However, I wanted some professional portraits with her and I together (besides the few that I have set up myself on a tripod).  So a few months ago, I asked Heather if she wanted to do a photography exchange.  (Heather started second shooting weddings with me last year and she is a very talented photographer, so I knew that I could get some nice photos from her).  Heather was excited to do this photography portrait exchange and she asked me if Carla (of Carla Dawes Photography) could join in our portrait session.  Carla is also an amazing wedding photographer, so of course I had no problem with that.

The day came and we all met at the arboretum to do our portrait sessions with the beautiful cherry and apple blossoms as our dreamy backdrop.  Heather had her daughter, Carla had her son and I had my daughter.  I must admit that these portrait sessions were harder than any photo session that I’ve done (except, maybe, of my own child).  None of us thought about three little kids wanting to just run around outside with each other and not want to sit still for portraits.  However, all three of us managed to get some beautiful portraits of each other with our children.

I hope that you will enjoy these photos of some beautiful and talented ladies with their cute children.  A big THANK YOU goes out to Heather and Carla for not only participating in this photo shoot, but also for taking photos of my daughter and I.

Billings Estate Wedding Photography

Christian + Jordan’s Wedding at Billings Estate Museum

Last weekend my second shooter, Heather, and I photographed Christian and Jordan’s wedding at the beautiful Billings Estate in Ottawa.  I have wanted to shoot there for a while and was happy to finally get the opportunity.  It is a really beautiful wedding venue for any engaged couples searching for the perfect wedding location.

I’m not gonna lie.  I was pretty stressed about the weather as there was a 70% chance of rain and they were getting married outside.  Also, their first look photos and all of the family and bridal portraits were scheduled to be taken at the arboretum.   We could have taken the photos at an indoor location if it rained, but I prefer to shoot outdoors.  Also, Christian and Jordan really wanted to have their photos taken at the arboretum as it is a place that they hold dear to them.  We were all so thrilled that the rains held off the entire day and we were able to take all of the photos outside and have a dry outdoor ceremony.  Yay for not raining!  And yay for shooting my very first wedding couple’s first look.  It turned out so beautifully.

Jordan looked beautiful in her simply chic styled wedding dress, while Christian looked handsome in his suit.  With a pretty pair like that and the gorgeous backdrops of Billings Estate and the Arboretum, we couldn’t help but get great photos of this awesome couple, despite the very overcast day and not a lot of available light.

It was also nice to scout out the various locations at the Arboretum with Jordan in order to get those special spots that hold some meaning to them.  It worked out really well to scout out the locations with Jordan, because both of them really wanted to have Carleton University in the background for some of their formal portraits.  I understand why, since Christian just graduated from there with a Ph.D. and Jordan is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Carleton.

I shot Christian and Jordan’s engagement photo session a few months ago.  As a wedding photographer I highly recommend that all couples do engagement portraits with their wedding photographer so that they can get to know their photographer better, so that it’s not so awkward on the wedding day smiling for a stranger.  Likewise, the photographer will get to know the couple better and know how to approach photographing them on their wedding day.

Congratulations Christian and Jordan.  May life bring you all of the happiness and love possible, and then some.
